Wheeler, Oregon

Wheeler was named for C.W. Wheeler, founder of the Wheeler Lumber Company in 1910. The railroad made Wheeler more commercially accessible and as the town prospered, many people were attracted to the area. Among them was Dr. Harvey Rinehart who arrived in the 1920’s to found the nationally known Rinehart Arthritis Clinic.

Through the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s, Wheeler was a hub of commerce and boasted many thriving businesses and services. Wheeler experienced a decline through the 1970’s and 80’s, but now is coming back full force.

Visitors and residents of Wheeler now enjoy a waterfront park, boat launch, and transient boat dock, restaurants, motels, antique stores, etc. An excursion train runs through Wheeler during the summer months.

Wheeler’s setting in the Nehalem River Valley features unsurpassed mountain, ocean, and bay views.
